Your Self Development Plan.
It’s a new year, again.
Some of us are thinking now how they are going to make this year better than the previous one. It is a good thing to wish! But how do we make it happen?
Understand your “why”
Making a plan and choosing goals for growth is a two edged sword - you both have something to move forward to, but you also have a potential of failing. So why risk it? Well, because it can make your life much more meaningful and satisfying. If you are in a bad state, mental or physical, this is how you make it better for yourself and all those around you.
Develop what?
Now, the potential for development is so vast that you might feel a bit disoriented. To tackle this, think about who you are, what are your interests, what are your strengths and weaknesses, what is very important right now for you. Don’t choose what is fashionable or simply what you “should” do (not that you should drop your responsibilities), but what you actually want for yourself and that which would make your life better.
It could be changes concerning your:
Cognitive capacities and other lines of intelligence
Skills
Lifestyle
Behavior
Personality development
How to do it?
When you settle an area of development, visualize what kind of result you would like. For example, you would like to be healthier than you are now in a year's time. Then it is time to set goals. Start with tiny goals, like walking for 5 minutes every day for 3 months. When you succeed, increase the goal. Tiny changes bring great results in a compound effect, and they are not as easy to do as you might think. You can always increase your goals when you feel confident enough.
Structure
Make sure you have a schedule and your goals written down for you to see often, so that you can keep yourself on track.
Or not
If you are not a consciensious type and this looks too much for you, try simply asking yourself every day “what could I do today which I would do that would make today better than yesterday?”. Then do it. In a year's time you won’t recognize yourself.
Good luck and be patient with yourself!
