How to study by yourself?

Studying at home has its perks: it is a comfortable, low-pressure environment. However, it can prove difficult to do due to all the distractions available to you at home.
Fortunately, there are several tricks you can use to be more productive and to stay away from procrastination patterns.

1. Beware of information overload

Make sure you filter, classify and check your sources for relevance. Don't passively consume information, instead try your best to practice what you read and hear.

2. Draw a study map

You can create a plan that includes several online courses. Think about what your goal is and what skills you need. Understand if you study for enjoyment or for something else?

3. Fight procrastination

If you find a topic boring, allow yourself to skip it and move on to the next one. You can always come back to it later.

4. Diagonal reading

Not all information has to be deeply digested, some can be simply skimmed through. Learn to differentiate between what has to be memorized and things that need only your rough understanding.

5. Use study groups

Join study chats, meetups and other community activities. This will help you keep your motivation high, ask questions and find support. Don't hesitate to ask people for video calls to study something together, talk or even do homework.

6. Learn from those who know how to study

Some experts blog and have free webinars. Don't be shy to ask for their advice, or join their online sessions.

7. Don't be a perfectionist

If you constantly get stuck throughout the course, you might be trying to understand it perfectly. There is no need. Even if you understand only 30%, it’s good enough. Better keep moving and be at the same pace with your group.

8. Create a schedule

You will need to see to your deadlines, and finish line. Celebrate your milestones, make use of rewards. Share your success with others.

9. Practice

Once you chose your field of study, think about how you  are going to practice the skills. Make sure there is someone who can give you feedback.
